So who is Tidewarp?

Tidewarp

Well, Tidewarp is the alias that I am producing electronic music under. My real name is Daniel, I’m 18 (almost 19) and I live in Denmark at home. An ordinary day for me involves high school, and usually a lot of homework, but I still try to find time for my music. I have been producing electronic music for 3 years now, and at this time I think I would describe it as my passion.

You are quite the photographer; does this inspire your productions at all?

Tidewarp

The reason I started taking pictures is that my mom always told me that I had a special eye for motives, especially in nature. So for Christmas she got me a Nikon DSLR, and since then I’ve just been doing it as a pastime. My dad is very interested in nature as well, and I might have inherited that a bit, because I enjoy photographing nature the most – especially at night.

You made the change from ambient and chilled styled productions to a more aggressive and glitchy sound, can you explain more about this?

Tidewarp

It’s always hard to explain why you change your musical style. For me I think it has just been me evolving my skills as a producer, and wanting to try out new stuff. It just kind of happens, I open up my DAW and fool around for a bit until I get an idea going. It is not something that is in my head consciously, it just comes along by itself. Especially the last 3 or 4 months I have been doing very diverse stuff, and I think it ties up with the artists I am listening to, and the music I am feeling – People like Mr. Carmack, Djemba Djemba, Yung Lean, Cashmere Cat, Lido and those guys has been inspiring me like crazy!

You seem to gig quite often, for a producer who is finding his sound and coming up, can you give advice to anyone starting out on how to approach promoters?

Tidewarp

Defining it as “quite often” I think is an overstatement, but I have had the good fortune to do it a few times. I would say that I have been incredibly lucky that I met some people that knew my music beforehand, and knew that I was a ‘cool guy’ or whatever. When it comes to approaching promoters – or just people in general – I think that an important thing is to ‘keep it real’. When compared to communicating with somebody on a social media like Facebook, talking to them in real life is so much easier, and so much more rewarding. Go out and seek out people instead of just sitting behind the screen would be my advice.

Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

Tidewarp

This question is always a tough one. I am extremely fond of beer, but I try to cut back – God help me. I am not religious either.

Can you reveal any plans you have for the future?

Tidewarp

There is loads of stuff! Some I can tell, some are secret, and some of them are not certain yet. I have two quite diverse tracks in the works at the moment, that really reflect the last few months for me, and what has inspired me in the period – those should come out soon. I’d love to spill all my plans here, but even the things that are not a big secret aren’t 100% certain yet, so I’m going to wait – soon though!
