Palestinian DJ Sama' Abdulhadi arrested following event at Nabi Musa historical site

One of the most seminal names in Palestinian club music, Sama Abdulhadi – also known as DJ Sama’, has been arrested by Palestinian Authority police following a techno party in the West Bank city of Jericho.

The event took place on December 26th at Nabi Musa, a historical site which many Muslims believe houses the tomb of Prophet Moses. The party did not take place inside the holy shrine itself, but an area of the site which frequently hosts other events, including weddings, birthdays and cultural events.

On December 29th, a judge extended her detention for an additional 15 days, claiming that “techno music is not a part of Palestinian heritage.”

An online petition has since been created, requesting the immediate release of Sama, which at the time of writing has 67,641 signatures.

According to the petition, the party had received written approval from the Palestinian Ministry of Tourism.

DJ Sama’ has previously recorded mixes for Boiler Room, Beatport and BBC Radio 1, among other popular broadcasting platforms.
