So who is Miss Melera?

Miss Melera

I’m a DJ and producer from the Netherlands. I’ve got my own monthly radioshow called Colourizon, it started on Proton Radio USA three years ago. Colourizon is on air as we speak, on different radio shows worldwide. I also upload every new episode on my Soundcloud page.

How long have you been involved on the Amsterdam scene now? With such a great passion for dance music out there it must be a great place to be involved?

Miss Melera

Honestly I can’t remember my first gig in Amsterdam. I’ve been involved for years already. Amsterdam is always on a roll and I’ve had many gigs in this city, luckily I’m still playing a lot in my home town. There are so many great locations and there is always something happening.

Your Magenta EP is out soon via Chapter 24, tell us about the EP, how it came to be?

Miss Melera

It’s my third release and the EP sounds a bit darker when you compare it to my first releases. I made the tracks last winter and I’m always sensitive for moods and moments.

I said it once before but this is exactly what it is: the two tracks Mint and Magenta are different from each other but familiar at the same time. It’s my first production that I’ve made in my new hometown and studio in Amsterdam.

I played Magenta a lot last year and I was surprised by the reactions on the dance floor. I never think how things ‘should be’ beforehand when I produce music. I just go with the flow.

And the remixes from Dave and Jonas, what were your first impressions?

Miss Melera

The first remix I’ve heard was from Jonas. I loved it from the first second. It’s so cool to hear what somebody can do with your parts and you can be surprised. I was like: hey why didn’t I hear this when I made the original haha!?

Dave’s remix is a totally different approach from the original which is really interesting. And to be honest Dave [ has been ] a true hero for a long time for me. It’s an honour that those two artists made the remixes.

Your favourite track from the EP?

Miss Melera

I’m playing my original track Magenta a lot.

Just some general questions to finish! Did you have a nice Christmas and New Year?

Miss Melera

Yes, Christmas was nice but also busy with a lot of gigs during this period. December is always a busy month. My friends and my family are all lovely and always trying to be everywhere, so I was happy that I could spend some time with them also.

Soundspace

Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

Miss Melera

Hmm.. maybe that I am not so interested in my e cigarette anymore and still quit smoking haha.

What’s the coolest thing in your house?

Miss Melera

I’m still in love with my turntables. A lot of memories since I bought them in 2002. And sometimes.. when I use them at home I always feel like a little child and [ become ] so happy to see my old records and give them a listen again.

Soundspace

Will we see you playing in the UK anytime in 2016?

Miss Melera

I would love to come to the UK. I’ve never played there and it’s absolutely on my wishlist!

Soundspace

And what other plans does 2016 have in store for Miss Melera?

Miss Melera

I am definitely going to do more events with Colourizon.

Miss Melera’s ‘Magenta’ EP is out on January 15th on Chapter 24 Records.
