Goldie may have just let slip the true identity of infamous artist Banksy. In a recent interview with Scroobius Pip, as part of a Distraction Pieces podcast, Goldie seemed to mention the mysterious illustrator by name.
“Give me a bubble letter and put it on a T-shirt and write “Banksy” on it and we’re sorted. We can sell it now. No disrespect to Robert, I think he is a brilliant artist. I think he has flipped the world of art over”.
It’s only a first name, but for a while now there has been speculation that Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack is the true face behind the ominous artistry. It would make sense too, seeing as Goldie and Robert have been close friends since the 80’s.
Robert Del Naja has dismissed these claims in the past, stating that “It would be a good story but sadly not true. Wishful thinking I think. He is a mate as well, he’s been to some of the gigs. It’s purely a matter of logistics and coincidence, nothing more than that”, following journalist Craig Williams investigation into the idea.
