Known for his iconic production values, Eric Prydz produces music under many names and has become known for a much loved style, gaining a fan base on similar levels to artists like deadmau5 and the late Avicii.
When you reach such a stage, it’s impossible to not inspire the generation behind you, and with the sample heavy nature of dance music, the lines between inspiration and plagiarism can sometimes become blurred.
Progressive artist Estiva has found himself in hot water with Eric Prydz fans, and Prydz himself, when Reddit user u/KingCaelith posted to the r/ericprydz subreddit that Estiva’s Alive sounds extremely similar to Prydz 2012 single Shadows.
Not long after the Reddit post Eric Prydz then took to Twitter to post a seemingly old recording of someone singing the jingle “You’ve gotta make your own kind of music”, alongside the caption “This one goes out to…. Well. You know who you are.”
You can listen to both Estiva – Alive and Pryda – Shadows below, whether Eric or Estiva will comment on the situation further is yet to be confirmed.
