A documentary film about the Roland TR-808 drum machine is set to be released in theatres and select streaming services later this Spring.
The film will be available to watch in select theatres and will also be available to purchase and stream via Apple Music and iTunes.
The introduction of the 808 drum machine revolutionised the creative process in making music. Genres such as hip hop and electro give thanks to the emergence of the technology as it paved the way for them to become established.
The documentary will go into detail about the history of the machine itself and will navigate the audience through the musical ecosystem from machines birth in the 1980’s to the present day.
Atlantic Films and You Know Films produced the picture, and a CEO for Atlantic Films had this to say about the exclusive rights given to Apple.
“It’s only appropriate that a film about a machine that revolutionised how music is made be seen via a service that revolutionised how music is consumed.”
Pharrell Williams, Fatboy Slim and Goldie are all set to feature. You can view the trailer for ‘808’ below.
