Manchester based brand Distinct have been busy during lockdown, launching as a label after having previously brought the likes of Djebali, Mihai Pol and Fabe to play at venues in the city.
Following on from their first digital release last month, Distinct drop another digital VA, this time welcoming Modula Records boss Jezz Simpson, along with Dutch native Den Haas, with both having their own prolific spells on the production front, counting releases on Resynance, EWax, Yaya and Inermu to name a few.
Jezz Simpson kicks off proceedings with ‘The Couch Surfer’, a house cut that is built around a warm bassline and organ melody, perfect for the summer months. Den Haas gives his own twist on breakbeat with his ‘Thirteen’ offering, a track that displays groove in abundance and highlight’s Distinct’s diverse musical palette.
Distinct’s own Shaw James gets in on the action with ‘Stand’, showcasing his trademark deeper groove highlighted by a number of evolving synths, and teams up with fellow Distinct artist Mondé to close the release with ‘Numantia’, which also carries the same warm energy.
The release has already seen support from the likes of Archie Hamilton, Mancini, SY, Mihai Pol and caLLy, and with their first vinyl release waiting to drop imminently they’re certainly one label to keep an eye on.
Distinct’s Digital 002 is out now on Distinct.
