40 Questions: Silvie Loto

Italian born techno talent Silvie Loto has been on a storm in recent years thanks to releases on Ellen Allien’s BPitch Control imprint and sets at some of the worlds leading clubs, including DC10, Amnesia, Sankeys and Goa Club.

Now fresh off a three track EP with Rhythm Cult, Silvie has taken the time to go against our 40 Questions. Amongst her answers she mentions the early days of DJing, loving Daft Punk tunes and which artists she would love to collaborate with.

01. Where are you right now and what are you doing?

On the train back to Rome where I live. I was in my hometown, Florence.

02. What year were you born?

03. What’s the coolest thing in your house?

I have a little collection of old turntables. One was a present from a friend, and since that day I look for them in street markets.

04. Worst experience as a DJ?

A guy once spilled a vodka-lemon inside my vinyl bag. The day after all the record covers were stuck together: a disaster.

05. Best experience as a DJ?

Probably all the warm ups I’ve done during my life. Making people dance from zero is always a great feeling.

06. Favourite record label?

I don’t have one right now.

07. House or Techno?

08. First record you ever paid for?

Uncanny Valey 001 – by Thomas Fröhlich and more.

09. Studio or DJ booth?

DJ booth. Studio is fun as well, but no comparison with being on stage and play.

10. Your dream collaboration?

Daft Punk ever since I was a kid. But also Roman Flugel and Robert Hood.

11. Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

I always eat something sugary before playing.

12. Cats or dogs?

Dogs. But I never had any of them.

13. Ever smoked?

I do.

14. Ever done drugs?

Music every day!

15. Ever stole?

Yes, I did with a friend when I was a kid: a magazine, probably only one Euro. But it was so much fun! We ran for 30’ after, but of course nobody was behind us.

16. Busy city, or quiet beach?

Busy city. I love cities! But of course I also appreciate a quiet beach from time to time.

17. One act who’s inspired you your whole career?

Ellen Allien at Tenax in Florence, one of the first females I ever saw playing live.

18. If you weren’t in the music industry, what would you be doing?

I studied PR and advertisement then specialised myself in event organisation, so I would probably be doing music events or working in the cinema industry.

19. Worst job you’ve ever had?

I was a waitress for a cocktail bar for one summer, but it was not so bad. I was also a barman at some point, that was very fun!

20. Favourite record right now?

Acronym City – Powermoves (Remix).

This weekend at Cosmic Open Air in Florence, because it was very emotional for me: it had been 4 years since I had played in my hometown.
