40 Questions: Luca Agnelli

Tuscany born Italian artist Luca Agnelli has built one of the countries most impressive techno labels, his Etruria Beat Records has put out tunes from Slam, Truncate, DJ Tennis and Oliver Deutchmann. While on his solo resume, Luca Agnelli boasts Drumcode, Desolat and Soma amongst his past releases.

We had Luca stop by to take on our 40 Questions, discussing his best and worst experiences as a DJ, what he couldn’t live with and what was the first record he ever paid for, read on for the full interview!

01. Where are you right now and what are you doing?

I’m on the train coming back from Milan where I was selecting the 10 finalists from the Jagermeister Music Lab to bring to Berlin and where I also got an Italian Dance Music Award.

02. What year were you born?

1976.

03. What’s the coolest thing in your house?

The view.

04. Worst experience as a DJ?

When I was going to play the last track at a huge night and a complete power black out occurred!

05. Best experience as a DJ?

There have a lot of great experiences, but one of my favourite from this year was in Sao Paulo at Ressonancia Festival.

06. Favourite record label?

Figure.

07. House or Techno?

Techno.

08. First record you ever paid for?

Pink Floyd – The Wall.

09. Studio or DJ booth?

Both.

10. Your dream collaboration?

Bjork.

11. Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

That my son is a fan of Fabio Rovazzi.

12. Cats or dogs?

Cats.

13. Ever smoked?

Occasionally Cuban cigars.

14. Ever done drugs?

Never.

15. Ever stole?

Never.

16. Busy city, or quiet beach?

Quiet beach but I prefer to live in Tuscany, quiet countryside.

17. One act who’s inspired you your whole career?

Jean Michel Jarre.

18. If you weren’t in the music industry, what would you be doing?

Chef.

19. Worst job you’ve ever had?

Fortunately I’ve always been a DJ as soon as I finished high school.

20. Favourite record right now?

Diego Amura – Phalaina (Ben Sims Remix).

21. Favourite record of all time?

Antony Rother – Don’t Worry.

22. One thing you couldn’t live without?

My family.

23. Favourite food?

Pasta.

24. Movies or books?

Movies.

25. Vinyl or CDJs?

Vinyl for the soul, CDJs for the practicality.

26. Favourite country to travel to?

Maldives.

27. Favourite club you’ve played at?

Guendalina.

28. Favourite festival you’ve played at?

Dockyard Festival.

29. Craziest story of being on the road?

When Jason Kay of Jamiroquai was dancing in the booth behind me.

30. Weirdest request as a DJ?

To play Prince – Kiss.

31. Coke or Pepsi?

Coke.

32. If you had one super power what would it be?

To fly.

33. Late sleeper or early riser?

Early riser.

34. Favourite fruit?

Papaya.

35. Strangest video you’ve watched on YouTube?

My butcher cursing!

36. Shower or bath?

Bath to relax, shower to be fast.

37. The top thing on your bucket list?

To start snowboarding again.

38. PlayStation or Xbox?

PlayStation, strong matches with my son.

39. Do you have any pets?

Seven cats.
