Canadian DJ, producer and label owner Atroxx continues to impress with a consistent run of productions that have seen him appear on labels like Kraftek, Odd Recordings, Octopus Records and Unrillis.

Now, making a return to Italian techno stable AnalyticTrail, Atroxx delivers his debut artist album, titled The Second Renaissance.

Welcoming him to take on our 40 Questions series this month, we find him mention everything from Jimmy Hendrix and psilocybin to Johnny Depp and poutine. Get the full feature from Atroxx below.

01. Where are you right now and what are you doing?

In my studio, just finished a meeting with a digital artist.

02. What year were you born?

Born in 1987.

03. Do you have a nickname?

People who have known me for a while often call me G.

04. What’s the coolest thing in your house?

I would say my handmade Mortal Kombat Sub-Zero life-sized bust from Sideshow Collectibles, there is only 200 in the world. I’m a big fan of Mortal Kombat.

05. How would you describe yourself?

Hmmm, fair!

06. Worst experience as a DJ?

I almost feel like I’ve been quite lucky in that respect!

07. Best experience as a DJ?

Being appreciated by my inspirations.

08. Favourite record label?

AnalyticTrail have been massively supportive and have given me a platform for my debut album and Soma Records have been a massive inspiration also.

09. What’s your biggest weakness?

Cheese curds, fries, and gravy.

10. First record you ever paid for?

Adam Proll – Hummel, on Cocoon Records.

11. What’s your morning routine?

Usually, I get up, work on music for the first hour or 2 then work out and back to music. This is why having my studio in my home is extremely important.

12. Your dream collaboration?

Danny Tenaglia, one of the biggest inspirations in my life.

13. Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

There’s a Diplo song that I like.

14. Who’s your biggest inspiration outside of music?

My father, a god of a man, and my mother, a saint.

15. And in the industry?

My father, the best musician I know (he’s the founder of one of Montreal’s oldest music school’s LaSalle Music Academy Inc.

16. Ever smoked?

Used to smoke, kicked the habit long ago.

17. Ever done drugs?

Lol, was Jimmy Hendrix a sober guitarist?

18. What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?

Life lessons from psilocybin.

19. And the best gift you’ve ever given?

A second chance.

20. What’s the coolest place you’ve ever been to?

A random rock labyrinth found in a forest in Costa Rica.

21. And one place you want to visit?

Definitely Tokyo.

22. If you weren’t in the music industry, what would you be doing?

Possibly something in the video game industry, a lot of my music has been inspired by gaming.

23. Worst job you’ve ever had?

Working in an assembly line, terrible.

24. Favourite record right now?

Sampha – Process.

25. And the best record ever made?

Slipknot and their self-titled album OR, Led Zeppelin – Houses Of The Holy.

26. One thing you couldn’t live without?

It’s a tacky answer, but music. For real.

27. Your favourite food?

A dish from my home town, Poutine. Simple yet delicious. Fries, gravy, and curd cheese.

28. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

Tough call either fried chicken claws or Capybara.

29. Who would you want to play you in a movie?

Johnny Depp.

30. What’s something you’re passionate about besides music?

Hot Sauce, homelessness, and animals.

31. Favourite club you’ve played at?

Stereo Montreal, Club Room Chile and Vertigo Costa Rica.

32. Favourite festival you’ve played at?

Easily Piknic Electronik.

33. Craziest story of being on the road?

I would love to elaborate but it’s not for the faint of heart.

34. Weirdest request as a DJ?

The Colombian anthem.

35. If you had one superpower what would it be?

Astral projection.

36. Late sleeper or early riser?

An early riser lately.

37. Strangest video you’ve watched on YouTube?

It’s between Hi Stranger and a creepy ice cream commercial.

38. The top thing on your bucket list?

Make music for cinema.

39. Most memorable moment of your life so far?

BPM Mexico 2015, unforgettable.

40. Will you ever be done with music?

For as long as I exist, I will make music.
