40 Questions: Andres Campo

Barcelona based DJ and producer Andrés Campo looks forward to a summer of gigs throughout Spain and Europe in the coming months, alongside his residency spot for Florida 135 club.

His social media has exploded in recent times, as he’s displayed his skills on imprints like Toolroom, Glasgow Underground and Odd Recordings. Read on to get a brief insight into the life of Andrés Campo.

01. Where are you right now and what are you doing?

I’m sat in my studio, naked, answering questions.

02. What year were you born?

I’m from the future, so I ain’t even born yet!

03. What’s the coolest thing in your house?

Right now our brand new washer dryer. Yep, believe! It’s not easy to figure out how it works, but it sounds cool!

04. Worst experience as a DJ?

I was hoping not to get this question LOL. But to be honest I’ve been quite a lucky guy. Not had too many bad experiences, but I would probably say the period of playing weddings, which was a long time ago now. Terrible.

05. Best experience as a DJ?

Lots of them! One that really stands out is playing at the Monegros between Richie Hawtin and Underworld, in front of 20,000 people. That was pure happiness.

06. Favourite record label?

Right now, there are more than one, KD-Raw, Off, Odd, etc.

07. House or Techno?

Love both, but TECHNO is my passion.

08. First record you ever paid for?

That would’ve been the DDC – Dance Division Collection (1995) on Pink Records.

09. Studio or DJ booth?

I spend a lot of time sat in my studio, but the DJ booth is my comfort zone.

10. Your dream collaboration?

This has to be the Prodigy. I think its a bit of a long shot though.

11. Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

I’m coeliac (gluten-intolerant).

12. Cats or dogs?


13. Ever smoked?

Yes, and still trying to quit.

14. Ever done drugs?

Yes, I tried most of them.

15. Ever stole?

Childhood was difficult at my hometown.

16. Busy city, or quiet beach?

Always the Mountains for me, sorry.

17. One act who’s inspired you your whole career?

Ryuichi Sakamoto, who I saw or I should say heard, at Zaragoza Auditorium a long long time ago. The only act that I’ve enjoyed with my eyes closed for the whole gig. Beautiful.

18. If you weren’t in the music industry, what would you be doing?

Definitely a Designer (I was working as this, on and off, up until last year).

19. Worst job you’ve ever had?

Loading 50kg sacks of flour into trucks when I was 16. But the people I meet there where real men, I learnt a lot.

21. Favourite record of all time?

Marmion ‎– Schöneberg (Marmion Remix) – This is from around the time I started DJ’ing. It brings lots of great memories.

22. One thing you couldn’t live without?


23. Favourite food?

I’m easy when it comes to food, potatoes in all their forms.

24. Movies or books?


25. Vinyl or CDJs?

Always Vinyl, but nowadays I use CDJs for DJ’ing.

26. Favourite country to travel to?

Latin America, always drives me crazy.

27. Favourite club you’ve played at?

Florida 135 is my home, nothing compares to that. We just had another party where I got to play all night long. The love in the room was overwhelming.

28. Favourite festival you’ve played at?

Monegros Desert Festival, no question.

29. Craziest story of being on the road?

A friend of mine having sex behind while I drive, that smell was intense. Terrible.

30. Weirdest request as a DJ?

Can you put on something to sing over? – This is not a fucking KARAOKE, please!

31. Coke or Pepsi?


32. If you had one super power what would it be?

Hard to choose between Time Travel and Teleportation. Can I have both?.

33. Late sleeper or early riser?

Total late sleeper!

34. Favourite fruit?

Melon. I lived on it during a summer in Ibiza, so really I should be sick of it. Never!

35. Strangest video you’ve watched on YouTube?

Love the ‘How To Basic’ channel!

36. Shower or bath?

Shower, and I’m now getting late!

37. The top thing on your bucket list?

To complete an EP for a certain hungry Englishman.

38. PlayStation or Xbox?

Ableton Live.

39. Do you have any pets?

Mom has 2 dogs and I always had pets as a kid. I love animals but now I live in Barcelona center, not the best place for a pet. But we take care of ‘Vader’ (Dachshund) when his dad (One of my best friends) travels or can´t find the exit at after parties.
