British techno artist Reset Robot has been making heavy set, groove fuelled techno for almost a decade now, his catalogue includes labels like Drumcode, Cocoon, Soma, SCI+TEC and Ovum and his talents as a DJ have seen him play to the dancefloors of Panorama Bar, Fabric, Tobacco Docks and more. Now heading up his own label alongside Alan Fitzpatrick and Rhymos called Whistleblower, as well as awaiting the anticipated drop of his forthcoming Held Note EP via Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brace label, 2018 is looking to be a big year for Reset Robot already. Read his 40 Questions below!

01. Where are you right now and what are you doing?

In my studio answering these questions.

02. What year were you born?

1982.

03. What’s the coolest thing in your house?

My wife.

04. Worst experience as a DJ?

Coming on after a comedian on NYE in a weird Ukrainian restaurant.

05. Best experience as a DJ?

Fabric Room 1 when I played with Adam Beyer at the end of last year. It was such a good atmosphere!

06. Favourite record label?

Running Back.

07. House or Techno?

Both. I love both.

08. First record you ever paid for?

Mariah Carey – Honey

09. Studio or DJ booth?

I’m so happy in my studio but in the right club with the right atmosphere and crowd the DJ booth can be magical.

10. Your dream collaboration?

Josh Wink or Matthew Dear.

11. Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

Well if I did, then it wouldn’t be a secret anymore would it?

12. Cats or dogs?

I have a cat but I’m sure at some point we will get a dog. I love animals and my daughter wants a dog desperately.

13. Ever smoked?

Yes.

14. Ever done drugs?

Yes.

15. Ever stole?

Yes.

16. Busy city, or quiet beach?

Quiet beach for me! My wife and I found a beach in Goa once that didn’t have another living sole on it. It was marvellous.

17. One act who’s inspired you your whole career?

Matthew Dear for sure.

18. If you weren’t in the music industry, what would you be doing?

I’m pretty sure I’d be in the kitchen somewhere. I love cooking.

19. Worst job you’ve ever had?

Debenhams on the Dorothy Perkins section.

21. Favourite record of all time?

That’s such a difficult question to answer. Stardust – Music Sounds Better With You.

22. One thing you couldn’t live without?

Marmite.

23. Favourite food?

Aubergine! Preferably after they’ve been smoked.

24. Movies or books?

I love reading at the moment. Especially when I’m away doing gigs. I can normally get through a book if I’m away for the weekend.

25. Vinyl or CDJs?

Vinyl.

26. Favourite country to travel to?

Israel.

27. Favourite club you’ve played at?

Fabric, Panormama Bar, Bloc Tel A Viv.

28. Favourite festival you’ve played at?

Snowbombing.

29. Craziest story of being on the road?

Probably the NYE in Ukraine. I got stuck there for 6 days because of some crazy weather. I thought I was stuck forever.

30. Weirdest request as a DJ?

A promoter once asked if I could play more tinkley vocals. I turned the music off and went home.

31. Coke or Pepsi?

Neither.

32. If you had one super power what would it be?

To be able to turn anything into Hummus. I love the stuff.

33. Late sleeper or early riser?

Late sleeper unfortunately.

34. Favourite fruit?

Apples. Royal Gala or Braeburn.

35. Strangest video you’ve watched on YouTube?

36. Shower or bath?

Shower.

37. The top thing on your bucket list?

I don’t have one. I’m shit at planning things.

38. PlayStation or Xbox?

Never been a gamer. I played Teken once.

39. Do you have any pets?

A cat. Percy. He’s cool.
