UK born, Hamburg based DJ and producer Mark Reeve has released with Drumcode, Soma and Cocoon among a long list of others, he has remixed guys like Jay Lumen and Wehbba, and even collaborated with Swedish techno don Adam Beyer.

On the eve of his debut with Pig&Dan’s ELEVATE imprint, Mark stopped by to pull back the curtain for our 40 Questions.

01. Where are you right now and what are you doing?

Just woke up from a long weekend playing at Balaton Sound and Beats For Love.

02. What year were you born?

In a good year!

03. What’s the coolest thing in your house?

The coolest thing in my house is my sauna, I love it!

04. Worst experience as a DJ?

There hasn’t been many but i think it could be turning up to the airport and my gear was missing.

05. Best experience as a DJ?

The best has to be the amazing festivals I’ve played at like Tomorrowland, B My Lake or Balaton Sound.

06. Favourite record label?

Drumcode.

07. House or Techno?

Techno is more my music. But house is also good to listen to on a beach or [in a] car.

08. First record you ever paid for?

The Prodigy – Experience.

09. Studio or DJ booth?

Both! Producing music and playing it in front of a good crowd.

10. Your dream collaboration?

I would like to work with Underworld or Alter Ego I love that type of sound [from] back in the day.

11. Tell us something we shouldn’t know about you?

That would be rude.

12. Cats or dogs?

Dogs.

13. Ever smoked?

Yes, but not much. I only smoke like one every month maybe, no idea why. Waste of time to be honest.

14. Ever done drugs?

Yes, almost all of them but at the moment I’m off hard alcohol and drugs. I feel much better to be honest! I think it’s been 2-3 years now, and I’ve not touched either.

15. Ever stole?

Yes, I remember stealing a packed up sausage roll once. Obviously I got caught.

16. Busy city, or quiet beach?

Quiet beach for me.

17. One act who’s inspired you your whole career?

It has to be Sven Väth from start to finish.

18. If you weren’t in the music industry, what would you be doing?

I’d probably go back to my computer work.

19. Worst job you’ve ever had?

Driving around in London delivering Lush Soap to shops with my dad.

20. Favourite record right now?

Too many to mention one.

21. Favourite record of all time?

It has to be the old Jeff Mills stuff, any of them!

22. One thing you couldn’t live without?

Beach.

23. Favourite food?

I love muscles with red sauce and a fresh baguette. Mmmhhh.

24. Movies or books?

Movies.

25. Vinyl or CDJs?

I used vinyl for years and years. Still have my collection of over 20,000 pieces. But I finally moved on to CDJs.

26. Favourite country to travel to?

I really like Australia and travelling to Japan was also an amazing experience.

27. Favourite club you’ve played at?

It has to be Space Ibiza!

28. Favourite festival you’ve played at?

B My Lake or Balaton Sound.

29. Craziest story of being on the road?

Most of my trips have been quiet and i like it that way.

30. Weirdest request as a DJ?

In the middle of a techno set someone asking for hip-hop.

31. Coke or Pepsi?

None of them! Both are horrible sugar drinks that kill you eventually.

32. If you had one super power what would it be?

Healing people and making this world a better place.

33. Late sleeper or early riser?

Total sleeper.

34. Favourite fruit?

I like berries all of them are lovely.

35. Strangest video you’ve watched on YouTube?

Some Alan Partridge has made me laugh – strange but brilliant.

36. Shower or bath?

Shower for me.

37. The top thing on your bucket list?

Wrestling with Crocodiles.

38. PlayStation or Xbox?

Not really my cup of tea. I like producing not sitting there playing games.

39. Do you have any pets?

No I haven’t at the moment. I just don’t have the time and it would be wrong to not give 100% to a pet.

40. Anything to add?

Yes! I have my next EP out on Pig&Dan’s label ELEVATE on the 21st July called “Don’t You Want My Love”. Its techno with little house 00’s style vocals which I hope everyone will get grooving to.
